JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA AWARD

2006-2007

 

Cynthia Kirscht

Cynthia Kirscht, Senior, flute/piccolo, Band Council President.  Cindy has been active in the MHS Rams Band all 4 years of High School and is a District Solo & Ensemble medal winner. In both 2005-06 and 2006-07 Cynthia was selected to participate in the All County Honor Band.  She also played percussion in the spring musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie.  Cindy will graduate in the top 15% of her class and will be attending the College of Southern Maryland in the fall.  She then plans on transferring to a four year university where she will be majoring in Music Education and hopes to return to teach here in Charles County.
 

PATRICK GILMORE AWARD

2006-2007


Emily Shaw

 

Emily Shaw, Senior, oboist, has been active in the MHS Rams Band all 4 years of High School and was a member of the Marching Band Color Guard.   She is a District and State Solo and Ensemble medal winner and was selected to participate in the All-County Honor Band and Tri-County Honor Band.   Emily was also a member of the Charles County Youth Orchestra and the Charles County Symphonic Orchestra.  She will graduate Magna Cum Laude and plans to attend Towson University in the fall.  She plans to continue playing oboe and wants to minor in music.

Tim Van Blarcom

Tim Van Blarcom, Senior, Percussionist, has been active in the MHS Rams Band all 4 years of High School and was the Marching Band Drum Line Section Leader this year.  Tim was selected to participate in the All-County Honor Band and Tri-County Honor Band.  He also played the drum set for the spring musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie".  Tim will graduate Suma Cum Laude and has received an academic scholarship to attend the University of Maryland, College Park in the fall.

Chelsea Coghan

 

Chelsea Coghan, Senior, Drum Major, Principal Chair Clarinet. Chelsea has been active in band all four years of high school and is a District and State Solo & Ensemble medal winner. In 2005-2006, Chelsea was selected to participate in the All-County and Tri-County Honor Bands. She also played clarinet and bass clarinet in the spring musical, Beauty & the Beast. Chelsea will graduate in the top 5% of her class and will be attending West Virginia University in the fall. She will be majoring in Music Education on clarinet. She also received the highest academic scholarship that the University has to offer.

JaVon Townsend

 

JaVon Townsend, Senior, Clarinet, Band Counsel President.   JaVon has been active in the MHS Rams Band all 4 years of High School and is a District and State Solo & Ensemble medal winner.  In 2005-2006, JaVon was selected to participate in the All-County Honor Band.   JaVon will graduate #5 in her class, Suma Cum Laude.  She will be attending St. Mary�s College of Maryland.  She was accepted into the Nitze Scholars Program.  Out of 150 students, she was one of 25 students selected.

Missy Tevis

 

Missy Tevis, Senior, Clarinet.  Missy has been active in the MHS Rams Band all 4 years of High School and is a District and State Solo & Ensemble medal winner.  In 2005-2006, Missy was selected to participate in All-County Honor Band, Tri-County Honor Band and Maryland All State Band.  Missy plans to attend Shenandoah University in Virginia next fall, majoring in Clarinet and Voice with a Minor in Piano.
