FUNDRAISERS
The
objective and purpose of the McDonough High School Band Booster program is to
provide moral and financial support to all McDonough High School Band programs
and assist each program to reach its full potential. (Band Booster By-laws)
The McDonough Band Booster organization strives to raise funds to cover the cost
of all band related activities and equipment not currently paid for with school
funds. These needs vary each year depending on the band classes offered and the
number of students participating. However, the list is usually quite extensive
and may include instruments and instrument care, music and related equipment
such as chairs, stands, sound proofing, and sound systems, marching band
uniforms, accessories, and cleaning, marching equipment, drill and recordings,
props, travel expenses, vehicle rental, trailers and maintenance, performance
fees, concert uniforms, concert programs, guest artists, awards and display
units, recruitment, mailings and band trips.
Some
recent major purchases:
High School Auditorium Sound System
(with Drama & Choral departments)
Equipment Trailer
Color Guard Uniforms, flags and accessories
Uniform racks for equipment room and the
trailer and several portable racks
The Band
Booster organization has been fortunate to receive a $1000 anonymous annual
contribution. To this generous contributor we would like to express our sincere
gratitude. To others interested in contributing, your assistance would be
warmly welcomed. Please contact our Treasurer (information on the Band Booster
page).
It is
our hope that 2 large fundraisers will provide a large portion of the funds required
to cover the majority of the costs associated with the band program. Our annual
Christmas Tree Sale event is a strong contributor and the annual Golf Tournament
is fairly new with great potential. An overview of our various fundraisers
follows.
CHRISTMAS TREE SALES
The Band
Boosters sell Christmas trees starting Thanksgiving weekend and continuing
through December until all trees are sold (the sooner the better). We currently
have a partnership with Wawa in White Plains, which allows us to set-up our tree
lot on the Wawa property at the corner of Billingsley Road and 301 N. This
location has worked well for our sales and has provided Wawa with a steady
stream of hungry band students.
We need
band families to help pick-up the trees and ready the sales lot in
mid-November. During the selling period all band families are asked to
participate by signing up to sell trees for at least one shift. Shifts are
weeknights and weekends. When the trees are sold, band families are needed to
help clean up the sales lot.
ANNUAL BAND GOLF TOURNAMENT The Band
Boosters sponsor a golf tournament every spring. The event combines fun and opportunity for community support through
commercial and individual participation. Businesses, groups, and individuals
may contribute by sponsoring a hole, tee, or fairway and they may also
contribute prizes and giveaway items. This offers both advertising
opportunities and band support. Everyone is welcome to participate in the fun
by signing up to play. Green fees, carts and lunch are provided.
MHS SPIRIT WEAR The Band
Boosters sell McDonough High School spirit wear and related spirit accessories.
The Rams Den is open during the week at lunch time and we also set-up to sell at
sporting events like home football games. Please see the "Spirit Wear" page
on this web site for item photos and prices. Contact information is included.
The purpose of our spirit wear sales is two-fold, first to promote school pride
and spirit and second to support the McDonough Band program. You can purchase
all your McDonough wear, including Letter Jackets, at the Ram's Den. Remember,
these items make great gifts!
CHRISTMAS CAR WASHES, GOLD CARDS, PAMPERED CHEF, COOKIE/BREAD SALES, ETC.
These
fundraisers represent the changing array of opportunities for band students to
help defray their costs to participate in Band activities. Students are
reminded to take advantage of these opportunities to relieve Mom or Dad's
checkbooks! Students can earn their own uniforms or event participation fees
this way!
